About the Teacher
Rama Chobhe is the pioneer and first Indian certified teacher to have started the Suzuki School of Violin in India in July 2001. She underwent training in the Suzuki method under the guidance of Mr. Richard Coff in Florida, followed by a Teachers’ Training Course at the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Colorado.
Rama, a Hindustani Classical violinist, started learning the violin at age five. She was a part of Warana Bal Vadya Vrunda for ten years. She then studied under her guru, Mrs. Vidya Dengle of the Delhi Gharana, for nineteen years. She is a Gold Medalist with a Master’s in Music from the Centre of Performing Arts, Pune University where she has also been a faculty member for the last fifteen years.
Since 2001, she has successfully taught more than 250 young children to play the violin. Rama strongly believes in Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy, “Beautiful Tone, Beautiful Heart”.
About the Suzuki Method
The Suzuki method is an internationally known music curriculum and teaching philosophy created by legendary Japanese violinist and pedagogue, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki.
The Suzuki Method is based on the principle that all children possess ability and that this ability can be developed and enhanced through a nurturing environment. Dr. Suzuki referred to the process as the Mother Tongue Method. The basic principles of the Suzuki Method consist of listening, repetition, motivation and encouragement.
